🌻 Visiting Grinter Farms
While there are several places to see sunflowers in Kansas, Grinter Farms is my go-to every year. Located at 24050 Stillwell Road in Lawrence, the fields are free to visit, but donations are encouraged to help support the farm. At the main field, you’ll also find a charming little farmhouse shop where you can pick up treats, local goods, and souvenirs.
🌻 When to Go
The sunflowers typically bloom around Labor Day weekend and last into September, depending on weather conditions. Because bloom time varies each year, it’s best to check the Grinter Farms Facebook page for the most up-to-date details. Their posts will let you know which fields are in bloom and how long they’re expected to last.
🌻 Tips for the Best Experience
-
Timing: Visit early morning or during golden hour for the best photos and softer lighting (plus fewer crowds). Midday can be tricky since the sunflowers face the sun, making it hard to keep your eyes open in pictures!
-
Directions: Simply type Grinter Farms into Google Maps and you’ll be guided to the fields.
-
Family Photos: The fields are a stunning backdrop for family or engagement pictures, so don’t forget your camera.
-
What to Wear: Comfortable shoes are a must—the paths are farm fields, not paved walkways.
🌻 Why It’s Worth the Trip
Standing in the middle of acres upon acres of blooming sunflowers is truly magical. Whether you’re looking for a fun day trip from Kansas City, a unique photo spot, or just want to soak in the beauty of Kansas during late summer, Grinter Farms is the ultimate sunflower field experience.
